How Does a Generator Work?
What is a Generac Generator?
Generac generators have been around since 1959, being used as external power sources in residential, portable, recreational, commercial, and industrial applications. From a simple power outage to a RV camping trip with the family, there is a Generac generator to fulfill any and every power need. With engines developed specifically for the rigors of generator use, Generac generators have become the leading source of external power generation, outselling their competitors in home standby generators many times over. The largest seller of the Generac line of generators is the residential standby generator, which is currently sold at levels five times that of its competitors combined.
How does it work?
An automatic standby generator system monitors incoming voltage from the utility line. When the utility power is interrupted, the generator detects the problem and kicks into action. The automatic transfer switch safely disconnects the utility line and simultaneously connects a new power line from the generator. This happens in a matter of seconds, once the utility line’s power is cut, the automatic generator system detects that there has been a disruption in the power source and systematically turns itself on safely and restores power to your home, business, or work site. Once power is returned to the original utility power source, the generator automatically returns itself to standby mode.
Why use a standby generator?
Power outages are never predictable, all too often you can be in the middle of blowing out the candles on a birthday cake one second and the next your power goes out and the only light available is gleaming from the one stubborn candle that you couldn’t extinguish. Why wouldn’t you use a standby generator?
A standby generator works when you are at home and when you are away. In the event of a power outage while you’re away from home, your security system is powerless, leaving your home, valuables, and worldly possession extremely vulnerable. In a matter of seconds, before a criminal opportunist has the time to take advantage of a power outage, your home will be secure and lighted as if nothing had ever happened. If you are home and there happens to be a power outage, the outside temperature can remind you really quickly how much of a luxury it is to have heating and air conditioning. A standby generator system goes to work seconds after it detects that your utility power has been interrupted and kicks in to maintain your home, office, or work site in the same condition it was prior to the power outage. Besides, who wants to be left in the dark if they don’t have to be and with a standby generator system, that’s a situation youl never have to experience.
I have a Generac air cooled home standby generator utilizing the LCD display (16 through 20kW models) and I am noticing some generator alerts.
You may be noticing some maintenance alerts which means that you will need to have a qualified individual come out and make sure your unit is in proper working order. Here is a document from Generac that can help explain this further.
